the crimson tale

clark & pougnaud - elliot et deborah

if you know better than taking anything you like for granted, you must have noticed by now that i hide little gems and traps here and there, i place clues as well as charms between the lines to keep the fire alive. the stories also transform with time. the signs that pull us in the game, that neither i nor you can control, keep changing, they move around.

meanwhile, monsieur baudrillard told me this story:

“the fairy that we all wait for comes up to a little boy and says: ‘i’ll make all your wishes come true, little boy. only on one condition though: you will never think of the crimson at the tip of the tail of the fox.’ ‘is that all?’ the little boy says with relief ‘nothing could be easier than that’. he leaves the fairy with the assurance that he’s going to lead a life of utter happiness.

you know what happens next: the boy can think of nothing but the crimson tip of the tail of the fox. the image of the crimson tail follows him everywhere, its in his thoughts, in his dreams all the time. he can’t get rid of it no matter how hard he tries. not a moment passes without this stupid, meaningless and stubborn vision. the more he tries to keep his mind away from it, the more it clings. he loses his joie de vivre. the crimson at the tip of the tail of the fox is on his mind while he dies.”

so now we need to find our crimson at the tip of the tail of the fox: the signs matter, not what they’re pointing at.
